How to Calculate a Tip
Tip Amount = Bill × (Tip% / 100)
Total = Bill + Tip Amount
Per Person = Total / Number of People
Total = Bill + Tip Amount
Per Person = Total / Number of People
Example:
Bill = $85.50, Tip = 18%, People = 3
Tip Amount = $85.50 × 0.18 = $15.39
Total = $85.50 + $15.39 = $100.89
Per Person = $100.89 / 3 = $33.63
Bill = $85.50, Tip = 18%, People = 3
Tip Amount = $85.50 × 0.18 = $15.39
Total = $85.50 + $15.39 = $100.89
Per Person = $100.89 / 3 = $33.63

FAQ
Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?
Etiquette experts suggest tipping on the pre-tax subtotal. However, tipping on the total (including tax) is also common and easier to calculate.
How do I split a bill unevenly?
This calculator splits evenly. For uneven splits, calculate the total with tip first, then divide based on what each person ordered.
