Surface Area Calculator
Calculate the surface area of common 3D shapes: cube, rectangular prism, cylinder, sphere, and cone.
Select a shape and enter dimensions.
Surface Area Formulas
| Shape | Surface Area |
|---|---|
| Cube | 6s² |
| Rectangular Prism | 2(lw + lh + wh) |
| Cylinder | 2πr² + 2πrh |
| Sphere | 4πr² |
| Cone | πr(r + l) where l = √(r² + h²) |
Example (Cube): Side = 4.
SA = 6 × 4² = 6 × 16 = 96 square units
SA = 6 × 4² = 6 × 16 = 96 square units
FAQ
What is the difference between lateral and total surface area?
Lateral surface area excludes the base(s). Total surface area includes all faces. For a cylinder, lateral area = 2πrh; total = 2πrh + 2πr².
