Density Calculator

Calculate density, mass, or volume using ρ = m / V. Enter any two values to solve for the third.

Density Formula

ρ = m / V
m = ρ × V
V = m / ρ

Density (ρ, rho) is mass per unit volume. Objects with density less than a fluid will float in it.

Example: A block with mass 500 g and volume 200 cm³.
ρ = 0.5 kg / 0.0002 m³ = 2500 kg/m³ (or 2.5 g/cm³)

FAQ

Why do objects float or sink?

An object floats if its density is less than the fluid it's in. Ice (917 kg/m³) floats in water (1000 kg/m³) because it's less dense.

How do I convert g/cm³ to kg/m³?

Multiply by 1000. For example, 2.7 g/cm³ = 2700 kg/m³.
